And So I Begin (again)...

ree

Hello, My name is Maureen and I'm a recovering healthcare professional ("Hi Maureen"). I've been a nurse since 2004. Nursing was a third or fourth (or maybe tenth career) for me. Most of my career has been spent in the operating room and, most recently, as something called an RNFA. Now that you've looked that up...(it's cool; even other nurses haven't ever heard of it.) In my nearly 20 years as a nurse, I've done a lot -general surgery, plastic surgery, bariatric surgery, ob/gyn surgery, pediatric surgery, cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, transgender surgery, in the big city hospitals, the fancy suburban hospitals, the not-at-all-fancy suburban hospitals, the outpatient centers. I've loved every step of my nursing journey - the patients, their families, other nurses, doctors, nursing students, residents, even the med students - until lately.

Something shifted for me. In me. I know what you're thinking but the shift started before Covid-19 hit us. Healthcare has become such a "business" any more. The focus on customer service and hospitality has changed the ability to give good, quality care and spend the time that patients are craving and actually need with them. Google ratings and patient satisfaction scores have become more important than anything else. The whole industry has turned to this factory-ish way of thinking. "Crank'em out!" "Get/em and get more in!" Bill! Bill! Bill!" This business of treating humans has lost its humanity! In turn, I lost my interest.

I wanted to help people -like ACTUALLY help them. I wanted to help people find wellness in this disease focused industry. I wanted to help people realize their true power within; to see that they could be the one in control of their health as opposed to sitting there waiting for one more diagnosis, one more directive, one more prescription.

But how could I possibly do that? I'm just one person. Just one nurse who loves wellness and naturopathy and homeopathy and yoga and western and eastern medicine and LOVE. How can I possibly make this difference?

And it happened. I mean, the big IT happened. As quickly as I allowed my mind and heart to be still and put my intention out into the universe, I received my message. In less than a day, I was registered for a course to become a Holistic Nurse Coach. I am a few months into this course now and fully loving each moment!

Nurse Coaching is a process where clients can realize their true wellness potential by tapping into their big "whys." They can reach their highest self and maybe even ditch some of the prescriptions (or even the diagnosis completely). Some of the biggest (and most profitable) diseases can be prevented, treated, or even reversed using the Lifestyle Design Techniques within the Nurse Coach container.

The best part is YOU ARE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT!! So much of healthcare is providers doing things to/for patients putting the patients in the passive role. In Nurse Coaching, clients tap into their power within and begin to use that to truly and actively bring about change. When change is ignited from within and aligned with our individual core values, the level of achievable success is immeasurable great!

Here in this blog (I can't believe I actually started a blog?!?!?!?!), I will be accounting my journey from traditional nurse to dual-certified Holistic Transformative Nurse Coach. I will share lifestyle tips, recipes, mindfulness practices, and even some yoga along the way (did I mention I'm a certified Hatha and Yin yoga instructor too?). I will talk in great detail about the process of nurse coaching and even share some testimonials from real clients (with their permission of course). Thank you for joining me on my journey to put the humanity back in healthcare.

To your health!

Maureen
